Re-shifting

by - March 01, 2020

Within this whole series of chaotic events; COVID-19, social distancing, and the lock-down, I was fortunate to be able to get a job at a start up advertising agency, albeit part-time. Initially I only came along with my brother to see how they work as a company and ask advice on how to maybe do it as a part-time job. My social anxiety was beating out of my chest but I told myself that if I don't step up and take the initiative,  while figuring out how to go about my pending architecture career, then I'd be stuck working at a minimum wage job that wouldn't have long term benefits to where I want to end up career-wise.

It's the very first time I was surrounded by like-minded individuals in terms of views on marketing, and the digital platform. Their whole setup of starting from the ground up, expanding and now hiring people (like myself) is inspiring. Talking about goals, ideas, dreams, seem more concrete and attainable, just as long as you put in the work. It was if I'm seeing Carol Dweck's book "Mindset" come to life.

Success only appears to people who give a damn about going after their goals. We should start looking at our creative pursuits in the same way we view our dreams and aspirations. I've realized that a lot of people "go with the flow" but at the same time they're not even putting an effort in what it is they're trying to achieve. The re-definition of going with the flow should be going through the flow, knowing that you are searching for an end goal. Don't just float around.
